Prior to joining Meharry in July 2005, Dr. Hildreth was a Professor of Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences, and of Pathology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, (positions he held since 1994 and 1996 respectively). Dr. Hildreth is a current member of the National Institutes of Health/the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (AIDS Research Review Study Section). His research has been focused on the relationship between adhesion molecules, lipid rafts, and the biology of human retroviruses (HIV). He has published more than 70 articles on related subjects and is an inventor on three patents/pending applications. Dr. Hildreth received his M.D. at Johns Hopkins, his Ph.D. from Oxford University, England, and his A.B. in Chemistry from Harvard University.
