Lipid Sciences, Inc. (LIPD) is engaged in research and development of products and processes to treat major medical indications through its unique, patented technology for lipid removal, known as delipidation. Lipid Sciences' R&D is currently focused on potential applications for delipidation in two main areas: Cardiovascular disease with our HDL Therapy and viral infections using our Viral Immunotherapy platform. HDL Therapy is aimed at developing potential treatments for the reversal of atherosclerosis, while the Viral Immunotherapy platform is focused on treatments for people suffering from conditions associated with lipid enveloped viruses such as HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and SARS.

HDL Therapy

Lipid Sciences' HDL Therapy could one day result in a dramatic reduction in cardiovascular, coronary or peripheral vascular events such as heart attacks and strokes. This platform uses delipidation technology to actually remove lipids from lipoproteins such as HDL in the bloodstream and then return the delipidated HDL particles to the body. These delipidated HDL particles pick up excess lipids from the artery walls and transport them to the liver. The lipids are then processed and excreted naturally from the body.

Viral Immunotherapy

Lipid Sciences' Viral Immunotherapy is focused on the removal of lipid coatings from viruses and other lipid-containing infectious agents by application of its delipidation technology. It is believed that removing the agent's protective lipid coating will expose new or additional viral proteins to stimulate the body's immune system and elicit an enhanced therapeutic immune response to the infectious agent.
